About Matthew A Korn, DDS

Dr. Matthew Korn is a periodontist, a dentist who specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases and conditions that affect the foundation of the teeth. This area of specialty includes the complex and sophisticated art and science of reconstructive treatment, using high-tech 3D imaging, regenerative therapy (allowing patients to regenerate their own tissue), and dental implants. Thankfully, the days of unsophisticated, painful “bone grafting” are over. Dr. Korn is passionate about ending the suffering and loss associated with periodontal disease. In 25 years of clinical practice, he has seen first-hand how “periodontitis,” the painless and progressive infection of the gum and bone, predictably destroys the foundation of the teeth and results in severe disabilities. Dr. Korn believes that any patient can return to health, no matter how far down the scale they’ve slipped, and that this journey can be comfortable both physically and financially.

A long, long time ago, Matt earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis. After taking three years to find himself, the University of California at San Francisco granted him a license to practice dentistry. Because he sat between a graphic artist and a dental lab technician, he made a decision to specialize in dental implantology and periodontics. 1992 was the first year that formal dental implant training was a part of any residency program.

At the University of Southern California, microsurgery and computed tomography were brand new to the curriculum too. As a practicing microsurgeon for almost 30 years, Matt has completed continuum training at the LD Pankey Institute and Spear Education. Matt takes the time to discover the many technical and behavioral factors that play a role in re-establishing and maintaining holistic dental health for the patient’s lifetime.

Matt dedicates himself to leadership positions with the California Dental Association and the Sacramento District Dental Society. He has a local study club (The Possibilities Club) dedicated to mentoring local dentists who aspire to grow in their understanding of comprehensive care in their practices. Matt has mentored many pre-dental students from UCD and CSUS to assist them in their preparation for dental school. To date, six have become practicing dentists!

Matt often says he’s never worked a day in his life because he loves his job. Despite his busy schedule, he has a love affair with bicycles, and can often be found grinding up and down the local roads, trails and race courses on one of his beloved machines. Winter doesn’t slow him down. He simply shifts to downhill or backcountry skiing.

Dental Implant Procedures by Dr Korn

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a root-form titanium screw that is surgically placed in the jaw to create an anchor for teeth to be built upon. Dental implants are considered the best way to replace missing teeth.procedure before image Dental Implantsprocedure after image Dental Implants

Single Posterior Implant

The majority of dental implants involve the replacement of a back tooth. Referred to as a single posterior implant, this procedure is typically less complex and less costly than many people expect.procedure before image Single Posterior Implantprocedure after image Single Posterior Implant

Front Tooth Implant

Dental implants are an excellent option for replacing a missing front tooth in most cases. Front tooth implants are not as common as dental implants replacing missing molars or back teeth.procedure before image Front Tooth Implantprocedure after image Front Tooth Implant

All on 4

The AO4 procedure is considered one of the most complex dental implant treatments. This procedure involves removing all natural teeth and replacing them with 4 implants and a permanent hybrid-type bridge.procedure before image All on 4procedure after image All on 4

Full Mouth Implants

Missing most or all of your teeth due to damage, periodontal disease, or tooth decay? Full mouth dental implants, which your dentist may call full mouth restoration or reconstruction, can be a great option.procedure before image Full Mouth Implantsprocedure after image Full Mouth Implants

Tooth Extractions

Sometimes referred to as “having a tooth pulled,” a tooth extraction is a very common oral surgical procedure in which a natural tooth is removed from the jaw. An implant may be placed after adequate healing time.procedure before image Tooth Extractionsprocedure after image Tooth Extractions

Bone Grafting

After teeth are extracted, bone can atrophy or shrink to the point that bone grafting is required. Bone grafting builds up bone foundations for sufficient implant stability and strength.procedure before image Bone Graftingprocedure after image Bone Grafting

Ridge Expansion

This is a type of bone grafting procedure where the bone is expanded or widened enough to support dental implants. This bone grafting procedure corrects jaw bone atrophy and shrinkage.procedure before image Ridge Expansionprocedure after image Ridge Expansion

Socket Preservation

Socket preservations are simple bone grafting procedures done in conjunction with tooth extractions. The goal of socket preservation is to preserve bone for a future dental implant to be placed.procedure before image Socket Preservationprocedure after image Socket Preservation

Implant Cosmetics

The goal of implant cosmetic dentistry is to create tooth-like restorations that are strong, mimic natural beauty and completely restore natural function. Think of cosmetic dentistry as plastic surgery for teeth.procedure before image Implant Cosmeticsprocedure after image Implant Cosmetics

Dr. Korn and his amazing staff really went above and beyond for me. They were extremely welcoming and interested in getting to the bottom of my gum sensitivity. Dr. Korn did a great job explaining my unfortunate habits that have led to the erosion of my gums...and he helped me treat it with a bite split.

I'm very happy that I found Dr. Korn. I thought it would be too expensive to go to a periodontist because I don't have dental insurance, but his staff was very helpful in getting me a good deal and even offered me a payment plan! Great periodontist and wonderful helpful staff.
